William Vasquez, born July 22, 1946, passed away on August 31, 2026, after a life marked by creativity, curiosity, conviction, and an unmistakable sense of humor. Bill was an artist who saw the world in his own distinctive way, and a passionate New Yorker who could talk endlessly—and joyfully—about the Mets, even when they were at their worst. He was a debater by nature and a talker by choice, always ready with an opinion, a theory, or a story. Conversation with Bill was rarely brief, but it was almost always memorable.

He cared deeply about the world around him and believed that it could—and should—be made more just. His leftist politics reflected his belief in the possibility of a better society, and also led him to his wife, Beverly, who proceeded him in death, and influenced social justice values in his children and grandchild. He was never afraid to say what he thought, and would share his beliefs with anyone who at least had the appearance of interest, and all who took the time to listen always left with an idea to contemplate. In his later years, Bill became increasingly spiritual, bringing a new kind of searching and reflection to a life that had always been deeply engaged with questions of meaning, current and past life, and the dimensions of being yet to be discovered and fully understood.

Bill leaves behind the people who loved him, the art he created, the ideas he shared, and countless stories and memories that will continue to be told. He is survived by his children, Robbie and Carrie, and his granddaughter Adelaide. His was a singular voice, and he will be deeply missed.
