Winifred “Winnie” De Vito passed away on Sunday June 13, 2021, surrounded by her family. Born on September 27, 1941, she was the baby of six children born to James and Elizabeth Durkin.
Winnie spent her childhood and teenage years in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn. She graduated from John Dewey High School. She met her husband and love of her life Anthony “Tony” De Vito in 1960, wed in 1964, and spent 57 years of wedded bliss together. They raised their two daughters Elizabeth De Vito Hodgens and Debra De Vito in Staten Island.
Winnie was a homemaker and returned to work at the Navy Exchange as an administrative assistant when her two daughters were older. She enjoyed cooking, especially her famous meatballs every Sunday and trips to Atlantic City. Living in a multi-generational home, her grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy.
Winnie is survived by her loving husband Tony, her daughters Elizabeth and Debra, sons-in-law Jack and Shane and her grandchildren, Michelina, Anthony, Angelina and Nicolas.
She will be missed beyond words…beyond measure.
