Terrance Quinten “Terry” Reed
July 1, 1963 – September 16, 2025

Terrance Quinten Reed, affectionately known as “Terry” or “Tee,” rested on September 16, 2025, at the age of 62 in Staten Island, New York. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Terry grew up surrounded by family, laughter, and a love of life that stayed with him always. Those who knew Terry will remember his ability to find humor in any situation.  His quick wit and easy laughter made him the light in any room.

Terry built a life around hard work, dedication, and resilience. He began his career as a proud Merchant Marine, traveling the seas and collecting countless “sea stories” he loved to share with friends and family. He later dedicated 20 years of his life to serving the Staten Island Ferry. As a Marine Oiler, Terry ensured the safe and reliable operation of ferries carrying passengers between Staten Island and Manhattan. He was also part of a historic moment in the ferry system’s modernization, helping bring the Molinari-class vessels into service for the benefit of Staten Island residents and the traveling public. His career reflected his steady presence, strong work ethic, and deep commitment to public service and operational safety.

Terry was also known for rushing to help others in times of need. He volunteered and worked during moments of crisis, including Desert Storm, Hurricane Sandy, and the World Trade Center tragedy, where he selflessly offered his time and strength to aid those in need.

As a partner, every day was an adventure filled with music, dancing, and lots of love and laughter. He and Linda shared many travel journeys, especially cruises and trips to Ocean City, Maryland, Boise, Idaho, and many states in between.

As a father, he was stern but protective, caring, and deeply understanding. He instilled in his daughters, Terrie Malika Reed and Trudys Merced Reed, the values of strength, independence, and wisdom that continue to guide them. One of his favorite lessons, passed down from his mother, Carrie Lee Gibbons, was: “See things for what they are, not for what you want them to be.” His youngest daughter, Terrie, was especially inspired by his sea stories, joining the U.S. Navy in 2017 to experience her own adventures at sea.

Outside of work and family, Terry found joy in simple passions. A devoted New York Giants and Knicks fan, he cheered for his teams through every season. He also loved tending to his many houseplants and gardens, proudly calling himself a botanist as he nurtured fruits and vegetables with patience and pride.
Terry will be remembered most for the love he gave to his family.

He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Terrie Malika Reed and Trudys Merced Reed; his cherished grandson, Roland; his brothers, Charles Henry Reed (Dee Dee) and Jeffery Reed (Tosha M. Reed); his nieces and nephews; and many close friends. His devoted partner, Linda DeMartinis, lovingly cared for him, sharing countless memories and cherished moments. Linda’s family and friends loved Terry, and with open arms, he became her missing piece.
He is reunited in eternal rest with his mother, Carrie Lee Gibbons; his father, Charles Reed; and his brother, Thomas Anthony “Tree” Reed.Terry’s life was a reflection of love, laughter, perseverance, and wisdom. His spirit will live on in the stories he told, the lessons he shared, and the family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. He’ll always be half man, half amazing.

  10. Sorry to hear of Tee crossing the bar.He was as big as a bear and as gentle as Gentle Ben.Tee was a great shipmate not only for his great personality and brute strength which he helped us out all the time but he had a knack for rigging and patching and making things work just to get us home as they say.He called himself McGyver which we agreed with.He was a better friend than shipmate. He would do anything for you and your family,he would give you the shirt off his back.Years later God sent an angel to Tee and her name was Linda and she took very good care of him!Well Tee RIP ,we got the watch now

  11. We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. Though the kids and I never had the honor of knowing him personally, I’ve heard such wonderful things about him from Michael and Shirley—especially his courage and service during 9/11. Please know that our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time, and I hope the legacy he leaves behind brings you comfort and pride.

    Love Breanne and Michael
