Robert Kenny Sr., age 88, of West Brighton, passed away surrounded by family on January 12, 2022. He was born on August 29, 1933 to the late Margaret (Irene) and James Kenny and survived by his brother, James Kenny. He was a loving father to Christine Lauria, Jeannine Harder, Kathleen Kenny, special son, Kevin Krause and special daughter, Deb Gasparik. Bob had twenty-one grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Boyle Kenny, and their children, Linda Krause, Danny Kenny, and Bobby Kenny.
Bob grew up in Hell’s Kitchen, graduated from The High School of Commerce, and attended City College of New York. He was stationed in Germany where he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1958, he married his wife of sixty-two years, Mary Boyle, and moved to Staten Island. For over 30 years, Bob worked as a bookkeeper for Munich American Reinsurance Company. His interests included music, genealogy, gardening, and drawing. He could always be heard belting out a tune. Throughout his life, Bob was a member of multiple church choirs, the Barber Shop Quartet, and the Roaring Chorus. He served as treasurer of various clubs and volunteered with several church groups since community life and service was important to him. Bob loved spending time with family and attended countless grandchildren\’s school and church events. He traveled to Ireland to connect with relatives and gather documents allowing him to research his family’s history over 100 years.
Bob will be truly missed by his family and his friends.

I am so sorry to hear that Bob has passed. I had great times playing piano for him–he truly loved to sing! There will never be another one like him. Rest In Peace, Bob. Sending love and prayers to Bob’s family.

Rest in heavenly peace Bob, we go back to 1968, NYC, you started working at AM RE a year after me, we traveled together on the ferry and express bus when we worked late,, we had many good times in our department, and many thanks to you, I was able to join your church group to see Pope John Paul II in Central Park., I know you made it to heaven and didn’t even have to walk past the monkeys at the zoo to get there, (for those who know us will understand), hope it gave you a good laugh too Bob. You’re now joined with your beloved Mary and children, rest my friend and pray for us who are left here.

I’m very sorry for the families loss.
Bob, You have been a part of my life since I married into the Reckard clan. You accepted me as a cousin, and You were that to me also. We shared so much of our time researching the Reckard and the Shaughnessy family trees. Thank’s for the wonderful times when we laughed and joked about many things. and the love of playing Cribbage. You my friend were truly my cousin, and I was fortunate to have your friendship. Love ya buddy, which you would always replay Ditto.
We met at the very first Mrs. Rosemary’s Xmas Extravaganza at the St. George Theatre some 20 years ago. From there a group of us started going to different auditions together. He then took me to Carolyn Clark’s house for Xmas caroling, and we ended up joining her chorus. We were also part of the same acting group and sang a duet together. We stayed in touch after he stopped attending the Roaring Chorus rehearsals, which we were a part of. He was a wonderful man, I will miss him. He was one of a kind.
It was an honor and pleasure having sung with Bob at several venues over the last fifteen years. He had a lovely, strong singing voice and was a great guy. He will be missed.
I have met some wonderful ‘internet cousins’ as we call each other. Bob contacted me about information for his Reckard family line he was working on. I had some health issues and a lot of deaths in my family during the time frame after we first corresponded. I sadly did not get the information back to him in time. A family member reached out to let me know that Bob had passed. What a wonderful gesture and magnificent caring family. May you rest in peace Bob, until we all meet again in God’s Big House ! Amen
