January 12, 1959 ~ January 6, 2026
Patricia “Patty” Downing (née Styles), 66, a lifelong Staten Islander, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Born in 1959 to Charles and Rita (Conte) Styles, Patty was a triplet and graduated from St. Peter’s High School for Girls before attending Katherine Gibbs. She worked for 13 years at Josephthal Inc., where she earned her brokerage license, and later pursued nursing, graduating from St. Vincent’s Medical Center School of Nursing in 1996.
Patty worked in the pediatric/nursery unit at Staten Island Hospital before serving more than 25 years as a school nurse with the NYC Department of Health at P.S. 45, Holy Rosary, and Our Lady of Good Counsel, retiring in 2024. She also worked part‑time for over 14 years at the NYC Fire Department Medical Office, World Trade Center Unit.
Patty was married to her husband, Thomas Downing, for 45 years and was the proud mother of Terrence, Thomas (Alexandra), and Kenneth, and grandmother to Terrence “TT” Downing. She is also survived by her siblings Rita Moreau, Charles Styles, Kathleen Francis (Paul), Michael Styles, and Paula Styles Dorman. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Maureen Noone.
Known for her boisterous, unapologetically loud, force‑of‑nature personality, Patty brought energy and warmth wherever she went. She loved the beach, her home in Brick, NJ, long walks with her husband and dog Ryley, and cherished her years swimming competitively with Hillside Swimming Club.
She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
