Mary Hanrahan

February 8, 1928 ~ November 17, 2025

Mary Hanrahan, a Staten Island Native, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on November 17, 2025

On February 8th, 1928, Mary Villamarin was born at home on Burgher Avenue in Staten Island, NY to Spanish and Italian immigrants Luis and Lucy Villamarin. After the birth of her younger brother, Louis Villamarin, they moved on to Van Name Avenue, which eventually became her home for 92 years.

She attended PS 44 and graduated from Port Richmond High School. Mary began working at Chase Manhattan Bank and advanced her career to executive secretary. She later met her husband, Henry Hanrahan while working there. Before the birth of her daughter, Donnamarie, Mary left the workforce and became a homemaker. Years later, she worked seasonally at Loft’s Candy Store in the Forest Avenue Shoppers Town. She later went on to have a son Robert who completed their family.

Mary was proud of her Spanish heritage, keeping up with the language. She was heavily invested in her family lineage with pictures and documents and was coined the “Family Historian”. She was also very involved in “El Centro Español” (The Spanish Club) as club secretary. Her father, Luis Villamarin, started the social club to bring together all those who immigrated from Spain.

Since February 2022, Mary has resided at Sunrise Assisted Living on Narrows Road North, where she spent the remainder of her time.

She is survived by her daughter Donnamarie, son Robert, her granddaughter Christina and husband Nicholas, and her favorite person, her pride and joy, great-grandson Victor Luis. She is also survived by a niece and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
