Jane Sefcik

Jane Ann Sefcik, 91, a devout woman of faith who served as a church pianist & Sunday school teacher went home to her Lord Jesus peacefully surrounded by her family on Aug. 12, 2023.

Jane Ann Shields was born to Eileen Shields and William J. Shields II on Sept.28, 1931 in St. George. She lived in Richmond Valley for 27 years before retiring in Seaview.

Her loving husband Donald E. Sefcik Sr. passed away on Feb.18, 1981. Together they raised two sons & three daughters. Surviving are:  Donald, Mark Sefcik and Cynthia Mathies, 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother William J. Shields III & two daughters Pamela Brooks & Linda Duquesne.

After graduating St. Peters High School in 1948, she attended Fordham University Secretarial School before a long career as a secretary at the city Health and Hospitals Corp. in Manhattan overseeing grants management for funding.

A devout Christian, Jane was a member of Faith Assembly of God in Tottenville before joining Calvary Chapel in Mariners Harbor later in life.

She vacationed at America\’s Keswick, her favorite place on earth, with her family annually. 

She had a vast array of interests, from belly dancing & journaling, to reading & knitting. As her family could surely attest, she was a master at Chinese checkers, pingpong & always had a Bible verse ready.

She was well versed in home remedies & would always insist that her family eat their blueberries.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday at  4 – 8 pm at Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, service to follow on Wednesday at 11 am in Calvary Chapel.
