June 27, 1958 ~ January 29, 2025
Lee was a talented and creative soul who possessed expert whistling skills and was an aspiring Jazz singer. He especially adored the songs of Stephen Sondheim and spent hours learning to sing from his heart with pride. He traveled mostly by bicycle, riding all over NYC, as a messenger and his primary mode of transportation. Lee rode in every kind of weather. Many people made friends with him over the years while commuting to Manhattan on the SI Ferry.
A loyal friend to many; Lee could make you laugh at the drop of a hat no matter the situation. And oh! What a cook! He knew how to prepare the most delicious meals having spent many years working in a variety of restaurants. His love of nature made him especially protective of all living things, particularly insects. He loved bugs.
He would study and learn all he could on many subjects including honing his skill at crafting knives and weaponry. Was he an expert? No, but he was keen on up-cycling materials at hand to whatever craft he was making. Archery was another favorite pastime as well as Origami, kite making with a fascination for airplanes. Lee enjoyed many interests.
But what really made him happy was spending quality time with his friends and knowing that his daughters were well and safe. He loved his twin girls. Lee was an extraordinary man; he was also a person unto himself. And he lived the way he wanted to live.
Lee is survived by his daughters, Hana Smith (& Luis Guitierrez) and Suzanne Smith (& Ael Loetterle), grand-daughter, Khi Smith, his brother, Dean and sister, Nan Smith. Uncle John Owen & Mary Owen, cousins, Stephen Owen & Heidi Owen.
