July 18, 1934 ~ February 12, 2025
Joseph B. Caneco, a devoted family man and proud Staten Island native, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at age 90. As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories.
Born on July 18, 1934 in Mariners Harbor, Staten Island, NY, he was the son of the late Josephine (DeMarzo) and Avelino Caneco. He proudly graduated from the College of Staten Island with honors, and spent most of his life in Staten Island. He served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957, primarily stationed at Ft. Benning, and remained in service in the US Army Reserves until 1962. He worked for Kraft Foods where he met his wife Louise, and retired from Wakefern Food Corp. as an operations supervisor in 1991.
Joseph found joy in gathering with family, and he particularly created lasting memories on family vacations and at Christmas. He took pride in his children and grandchildren, often highlighting their accomplishments to others. Joseph had the keen ability to fix anything, no matter how big or small the item. He also enjoyed reading The Advance, watching the Yankees, discussing real estate, doing sudoku puzzles, and eating a big plate of food.
Joseph was predeceased by his brother Avelino (John) and sister Ann Siciliano. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Louise, and their four children: Joseph (Kathy), Daniel, Kimberley Serao (Joseph), and Greg (Autumn). He was a proud grandfather to Joseph (Layne), Kevin (Erica), Kate (fiancé Nick), Leah (Joseph), and Dana. His legacy continues through his four great-grandchildren: Erin, Gabriella, Olivia, and Juliana.
Joseph’s strong will, all-encompassing knowledge, one-of-a-kind humor, and committed love to his family will be missed but never forgotten. His family is sure his spirit will live on in the many stories they will share for years to come.
Family and friends will gather for visitation from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday, February 16th at Cherubini McInerny Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Ave, Staten Island, NY 10302. The funeral will be held on Monday, February 17th, leaving from Cherubini McInerny Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, followed by the interment at 11:45 AM at Saint Joseph Cemetery, 360 Broadway, Keyport, NJ 07735.
