August 28, 1960 ~ March 31, 2025
John C. Moreno Jr. ,64, passed away at home due to natural causes on March 31, 2025. He was born in Staten Island, NY on August 28, 1960. John was a humble soul whose life was defined by creativity, determination, and a passion for learning. He demonstrated a remarkable talent for science and technology earning awards for innovative products. During his time in grade school, at only the age of 11, he earned an award for creating a fully operational street light. He was a proud graduate of Ralph R. McKee Vocational and Technical High School and then attended Devry Technical Institute. John carried his curiosity throughout his life.
Beyond academics, John was a man of many passions. A self-taught guitarist inspired by classic rock and The Beatles, he also pursued martial arts—drawing inspiration from Bruce Lee—and cherished classic movies. His love for photography and storytelling shone through when, as a teenager, he created his own version of the movie Shaft, titled Junior Shaft, which starred friends and family, even though it was never published. He also enjoyed chatting on his CB Radio and went by the call name “Yellow Submarine”.
Deeply religious, John actively participated in online Bible discussions, sharing his insights and living his faith daily. His journey was not without challenges; despite battling his mental illness throughout his life, John maintained a fulfilling and independent life. His quiet, shy nature belied a caring spirit that touched everyone he met.
John’s career was as diverse as his interests. John’s earliest career was working at his father’s Collision Repair shop, R&B Auto Body. He also worked for Okay Auto Body doing collision repairs. It was his life-long work as a taxi cab driver that truly reflected his warm and compassionate nature, connecting him with people from all walks of life. He drove a cab from the mid 1990’s until his passing.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Charles Moreno Sr., and is survived by his mother; Elizabeth Ann Moreno, his brothers, Michael Moreno and Steven Moreno. His sisters Lori Ann Moreno, and Elizabeth Mary Moreno, and nephews Steven Moreno Jr, and Michael Moreno Jr. and niece Stephanie Moreno. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Soraya Moreno.
John’s life touched many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him. His legacy is one of innovation, deep faith, artistic passion, and the courage to persevere despite personal challenges. Though he ultimately died of a heart attack, his spirit and kindness will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Heart felt condolences to John’s family. I am a listener to Open Forum. I may have heard John’s voice on the program at some time. I thank God that He led John to the New Open Forum to ask questions regarding God’s magnificent salvation. Many, many people benefit from the answers to questions like John’s because we all have similar interests. I firmly believe God used John in this way. Thank God for John and His faith in the Lord Jesus.
