Arthur Cappabianca

United States Navy Veteran, retired NYPD Sergeant, and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur John Cappabianca, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 78.

Arthur was born in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, to parents Arthur and Margaret. He is survived by his younger sister, Roseann Carfora. At the age of 18, Arthur enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served on the USS Warrington as a Sonar Technician. His time as a Tin Can Sailor deeply influenced his life\’s trajectory. Returning to civilian life, Arthur dedicated 26 years to the New York City Police Department, retiring at the rank of Sergeant. During his off hours, he pursued a new hobby, moonlighting as a stand-up comedian and emcee at the comedy club \’Good Times\’ in Manhattan. Arthur\’s true passion remained always with the Navy, where he served for 20 years. He enlisted again, this time in the United States Naval Reserve and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. His military career didn\’t end there; Arthur later became a Blue & Gold Officer for the United States Naval Academy. In this role, he helped many young candidates navigate the application process, receiving several \’Blue and Gold\’ awards for his efforts. Arthur\’s commitment to service extended beyond the military and NYPD. He was actively involved in his local community, serving as President of the Decker Avenue Civic Association and as a District Leader of the Republican Party. He was also a member of Community Board 1 and the Blessed Sacrament Holy Name Society. Arthur believed deeply in the power of ordinary citizens to effect change. In his later years, Arthur pursued a creative outlet as a novelist, writing and publishing seven books. This endeavor brought him great fulfillment and inspired many who followed his work.

Above all, Arthur cherished his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his adoring wife, Agnes, to whom he was married for 44 years, his four children: John, Joseph, James, and Jessica, and eight beloved grandchildren. Known affectionately as \”Poppi,\” he was happiest when surrounded by his grandchildren, with Agnes by his side.

A true patriot, neighbor, friend, father, and husband, Arthur will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  In lieu of sending flowers, the family asks you to contribute to the Silver Lake Specialized Care Center in his name.

  6. For Agnes and your beautiful family. Sheila and Gary just notified me of the sad news of Arthur’s passing. He was always the one to call us to keep in touch. We truly loved him, David and I moved to Colorado in April of 2023 to be near Katie and found a lovely ranch. The steps were getting to be a bit of a problem for me, and we are very comfortable here, although we do miss our family and friends. Our new address is 16566 E Firefly Avenue, Parker Colorado 80134. Telephone 393 955-1775. We never did get around to sending out change of addresses.love always.

I build historically correct models. Artie was a walking naval history book. Helped me dozens of times. Pretty knowledgeable about trains. So happy I had his friendship. A wise gentleman.
