Robert \”Bob\” Meyer, 78 of Little River, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2022.
Born in Staten Island, he was raised in the neighborhood of Stapleton. He gained experience as a stationary fireman during his time as a merchant marine. Which ultimately led to his lifelong career as a stationary engineer. He later became Director of Engineering at both Victory Memorial Hospital and Staten Island Hospital. There, he was instrumental in moving the hospital from its old campus to its current location in Ocean Breeze. He eventually retired from NYCHCC to enjoy his time with family.
Bob happily spent his retirement alongside his wife Anna until her passing last month. They frequently took trips to their summer home in the Pocono Mountains. Here, Bob loved to fish and spend time enjoying nature with his family.
In his spare time Bob enjoyed carpentry and made gifts for friends and family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved making people laugh. He was known for his famous rendition of The Happy Birthday Song, \”Whoooooo!?\” This was especially enjoyed by all of his children and grandchildren who would confidently tell you that they were his #1 and believe it, because he made each of them feel like they were the favorite.
Bob is survived by his loving children, Wendy Vaphides (Charles), Robert Meyer (Mary), and Michelle Meyer. His stepdaughter Denise Schafer (William). His adoring grandchildren, Kristen (Jeremy), Amanda (Louis), Jonathan (Ayesha), Michael (Domenique), Gianna, William (Lisa) and Deanna. He is also survived by his sister Karen Cibelli (Robert) and brother Harry. He will be sorely missed by many.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the St Jude\’s Childrens Hospital in his name would be appreciated (stjude.org). Visitation will be Thursday, 3:00-5:00pm and 7:00-9:00pm, at Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Avenue, S. I. N. Y. 10302. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, at 11:00am, at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church. 30 Manor Rd, Staten Island, NY 10310. Burial will follow at Christ Church Cemetery, 439 South Pine Avenue South Amboy, NJ 08879
