We regretfully announce the passing of Margaret Mary “Marguerite” Puccerella (nee Battle) on October 1, 2022 after a short, yet formidable, battle with breast cancer.

Marguerite, born March 19, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY, was a feisty red-head from the very beginning. In recent years, Marguerite was very active at St. Roch’s Church, holding leadership roles in the St. Ann’s Society and Senior Group. An avid reader, crocheter, and baker, Marguerite loved to travel and spend time with family and friends.

Marguerite valued education. She graduated from St. Rose of Lima Elementary School and Midwood High School. She received an associate’s degree from New York City Community College, and had been credits away from a Bachelor of Accounting from Brooklyn College.

Marguerite was always hard-working. While in school, she worked as a Manager of Housekeeping for Sheridan-Atlantic Hotels and an Accountant for Lehman Brothers. She also helped with family-owned businesses, including a Carvel shop in Brooklyn and the Ski Inn at Hunter Mountain.

Marguerite enjoyed skiing in her youth, a past time she shared with her late husband Albert Puccerella Jr.  The two met at Hunter Mountain and married in 1973, bringing Marguerite to Staten Island, NY.

Together, Al and Marguerite ran Silvestro’s Deli & Caterers for over 40 years.  Marguerite loved the friendships she made with everyone who worked and shopped in the deli.

Marguerite’s most important roles were that of mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Marguerite loved her family, and supporting them gave her purpose and joy. With unending compassion and selflessness, she would go out of her way every day to help others.

Marguerite was predeceased by parents, Martin and Bridget Battle, brothers, Martin and John (Clifford) Battle, inlaws Al and Anna Puccerella and CarolAnn Epifani, and husband, Al Puccerella Jr..  Marguerite is survived by sisters Patricia (James) Finn and Kathleen (James) Clyne, in-law Margaret Mary Pompa (James), children, Diana DeMartini (Andrew), Suzanne Lucas (Aaron), Al Puccerella III (Brianne), grandchildren Albert, Paige, Elsie, Henry, Robert, and Charles, and bonus grandchildren Eric, Callie, and Sean.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Roch’s Church at 602 Port Richmond Ave Staten Island, NY 10302, 718-442-4755.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 4, 2022, 7-9pm and Wednesday October 5, 2022 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Arrangements were entrusted to Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302. Funeral will be Thursday October 6th in the church hall of St. Roch’s Church at 10:00am, followed by a burial at Moravian Cemetery.

  5. My deepest sympathy to Diana, Suzanne, Al and families also Kathleen and Pat. I have very fond memories of Margaret and myself staying with Marguerite some nine years ago. She was a wonderful person always giving of herself.

So sorry about the passing of Marguerite. Al and Marguerite had the best damn potato salad on Staten Island and beyond when they operated Silvestro’s Deli in Westerleigh. Marguerite carried on the tradition after Al’s untimely passing. Sincere condolences to the family. I know she will be greatly missed by friends and her many family members.

  7. As children, we had a yearly tradition of going to NYC with Pat and then taking the car on the Staten Island Ferry for snacks at the Puccerella household! It was one of my most favorite things to do.

My heart goes out to all of the family during this difficult time. May you find some peace in the great memories you made with “Aunt” Marguerite.

  8. Sincere sympathy to all Marguerite’s family on her death at too young an age. She was a very friendly and outgoing woman and will be missed. Condolences from all her cousins in Ireland whom she visited two times.

  9. My sincere sympathy to the entire family. Sending all my love and strength during this time. Hoping that you can reflect on all the great memories and moments that you have shared. My heart goes out to you.
