McCrayUSE

Richard McCray Sr. 78, passed away in Staten Island University Hospital on November 5, 2020. He was born on January 26, 1942, in Holyoke, Massachusetts. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Patricia McCray (nee Ryan), his loving sons, Richard Jr. and Craig, also his loving daughter-in-law Tracey and sister-in-law Maureen Vitkovich. Richard loved spending time with his seven grandchildren, Deanna, C.J., Michael, Joseph, Jack, Francis, and Danielle, whom he always referred to as \”baby doll\”. Many nieces and nephews will also miss Richard dearly.

Richard worked for twenty years for the New York City Sanitation Department with great joy before retiring. He is known as \”Pop\” to his beloved family. Pop\’s favorite time of year was Christmas; he had the task of dressing up for his grandkids as Santa Claus because of his distinctive white beard. He enjoyed his trips to Florida and Massachusetts, loving his travels to the casino and spending time in his garden. Singing the oldies and playing the guitar for his grandchildren were among the many things Pop enjoyed. When you asked how he was, one of Pop\’s famous lines was \”Taking It Slow.\”  Pop was the life of the party and will be dearly missed by all.

Thank you for keeping memories of my Dad, alive for me. I loved hearing stories of him through your eyes. Your Mom, Auntie Pat, was one of my biggest inspirations. Though I didn’t see you often, when I did, you always made me feel like family. That Richie, was my biggest gift. Say hello to those McCrays at the gate for me.
So sorry for your families loss, how you loved Patty and your boys. Praying the memories, hold them close when they miss you.
    June Hellyar (formerly McCray)
    Belchertown, Ma
