In Loving Memory of Jonnie Jones

It is with love and gratitude that we announce the passing of Jonnie Jones, who peacefully departed this life on August 13, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born in Sanford, Florida, Jonnie lived a life marked by strength, resilience, compassion, and an unwavering love for her family. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Henry and Carrie Bell Williams. Above all, she loved Jehovah God, and her faith remained an important part of her life throughout the years.
Jonnie’s life was also one of service to others. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, she participated in missionary work, sharing the faith that meant so much to her. She also dedicated part of her professional life to caring for others as a nurse, extending that same spirit of compassion and service to those in her care.
Jonnie found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a special talent for crocheting, creating beautiful handmade pieces with care and love. She also had a true green thumb, finding happiness in nurturing her plants and watching them flourish. Her determination, quiet strength, caring nature, and enduring spirit will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Debra Ann Byer.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two loving daughters, Muhsinah Muhammad and Darlene Jones; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with her siblings, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives she touched.
In accordance with Jonnie’s wishes, final arrangements will be carried out through cremation.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, faith, compassion, strength, and life of service will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
May she rest in eternal peace.

Although this journey was one of the hardest I’ve ever walked, I am grateful I was able to be there for you, advocate for you, and honor the wishes you entrusted to me. 686 N Exchange St, 11 E Washington St, 101 St Harlem, Co Op City, Plimpton Av Bronx…Where you took me in when I was having trouble at home.But that was your NATURE to help with an open heart. I think about when you answered your call to be a nurse “in your 40’s” WoW!! I know Jehovah God had his hands on you!! Your whole life sis you had the nature of giving and focused determination. your ability to create clothes out of your imagination and sew them and put them together. it’s still unmatched today by anyone. your knit one Pearl 2… oh my!! I have always been amazed by your abilities to create havoc and peace at the same time!! I thank you for being part of helping to grow me into a man with all of our talks about life in the Lord… I listed all those places where you used to live because it reminds me of one of your favorite songs. you and I used to reminisce about Eddie Kendricks. “this used to be the home of Johnny May” but she don’t live here. no more. no more…I’m going to miss you sis. we are going to to miss you. I thank the Lord for having you in my life. rest in peace. I will always have you in my heart.

Although I didn’t have the opportunity to know Mrs. Jonnie Jones for very long, I feel truly grateful that I was able to travel to North Carolina many years ago, along with my stepdaughter Naijae, to meet Alethea’s grandmother.
From that moment forward, I did my best to be supportive, patient, and understanding of her needs, her unique demeanor, and the unconditional care she required for Alethea. I am graciously honored to know that my presence—visiting her and being by her side during her final days—will forever be a part of her story and a cherished memory.
It was a privilege to witness the love, devotion, and care that Alethea gave to her grandmother. Seeing that love firsthand allowed me to better understand the special/unique bond they shared and the profound impact Mrs. Jonnie Jones had on the people who loved her.
Although I only knew Alethea’s Grandmother Mrs. Jonnie Jones for a small part of her life, I am thankful that I was able to share those final moments with her on August 13, 2026. I believe the Lord has given her unbreakable wings and welcomed her to a precious place in the afterlife—or, as Mrs. Jonnie Jones would say, the Kingdom of Heaven.
She will always be remembered with love, dignity, and respect. I am deeply grateful that I had the opportunity to be there in person, hold space for her final days, and offer my last and final heartfelt goodbye.
May she rest peacefully in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Oh my goodness, this is very shocking and heartbreaking. I’ll never forget the times we spent together talking, laughing on the phone. You always showed me love and accepted me like I was your daughter. Our long talks about our spiritual connection with our higher power gave me such wisdom and such an uplift.
