William B. Allen

February 8, 1932 ~ May 18, 2026

William Bernard Allen, 94 years old, passed away at home on May 18, 2026.  Born in Brooklyn in 1932 to William J. and Rose Allen, William lived there before moving to Staten Island when he married his late wife, Evelyn (nee Martucci).  William was a star basketball player at St. John’s Preparatory High School and was an athletic and academic scholarship recipient.  His basketball career was shortened when he contracted polio at the age of 15 years old.

He spent most of his working career employed by The New York Daily News as a pressroom mailer and later promoted to foreman and then senior foreman.

William was an avid sports enthusiast and a devoted New York Mets fan.  He enjoyed listening to swing music and also was an avid Neil Diamond fan and gardener.)

He was the center of all holidays and family events, doting over all of his children, grand children and great grand children.     He was the devoted father of Dawn Kiena (Gary), William G., Mark (Anne), Kevin, Bernadette (Anthony), Eric (Jennifer) and Sean (Maria).

William was affectionately known as “Papa” to 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and the loving brother of Robert Allen and the late Geraldine Pellegrino.

Services will be conducted by Cherubini McInerney Funeral Home, 1289 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10302.  The family will receive visitors there on Friday, May 22 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1091 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10310.
